DAVYHULME Park captain David Shepherd survived a golfathon of 72 holes to raise £7,000 for his chosen charity of Delamere Special Needs School to help create a new sensory room they are looking to provide.

He began the day at 5am, playing with DHP professional Martyn Hamer and 383 shots later at 7.50pm, accompanied by junior captain Matthew Gallagher, the challenge was completed.

They were welcomed on to the 18th – and 72nd – green by a number of members to celebrate a great day with dry and fine weather.

Shepherd said: “I played the second round with our president Dave Surtees and the third round with lady captain Jane Chell and we would all like to thank the members who helped support the day through sponsorship, the correct score tote and fundraising on the night.

“We also had plenty of practical support from Paul Clutterbuck’s with bacon sandwiches at 6.30am, Don Connor’s strawberries in mid-morning and caddying from Pauline Holroyd and Andrea Shepherd.

“Special thanks also to Warren, our president, and everyone else who provided raffle prizes and to all my friends, family and colleagues from my workplace Bruntwood for helping to raise such a fabulous amount on a very memorable day.”
