OLD Trafford and Gorse Hill were in bright form in the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League Premier Division as they won 8-1 at relegated Bedians.

Elsewhere, there was a shock 3-1 defeat for Mellor at Tintwistle Athletic giving Whalley Range a three-point edge going into the final two games for both teams culminating in the last game where they face each other.

Two big cup ties were the main feature with Moorside Rangers seconds winning the Hellawell Shield with a 3-0 victory against Spurley Hey seconds.

The other cup match was the Rhodes Cup semi-final between the top two teams in the Premier Division and a repeat of last season’s final between Whalley Range and Mellor.

A tight contest saw the game swing both ways before Mellor won 3-2 to set up a date at Bury FC where they will take on Newton Heath from Division One.

There was plenty of action in Division B with Old Trafford and Gorse Hill seconds registering an 8-1 win against Rochdale Galaxy.

There were five games in Division D with champions Bedians thirds going down 2-0 at Old Stretfordians thirds to keep Strets in the race for second place.

They are chasing local rivals Trafford United seconds who won 3-1 at Chadderton Park seconds and Strets have a vital game in hand over United.
