FLIXTON Cricket Club are targeting a title challenge ahead of the new Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division season.

The new campaign gets under way on Saturday with Flixton hosting newly-promoted Walshaw at Lawrence Road and after a fourth-place finish last time around, the club has high hopes for 2017.

They have added South African Johan Wessels to their ranks and he joins returning Jamaican Alton Beckford.

Meanwhile, the eagerly-awaited return of Australian-born club legend Steven Hammond is also a huge boost.

Lancashire Under-19 player Alex Heaton has also been brought in from rivals Astley and Tyldesley to play alongside last season's professional Usman Tariq, who will open the batting with the league's leading run scorer from 2016, Luke Perry.

Meanwhile, George De'ath will add stability as captain of the second XI who welcome back a number of former players.
