MAN-of-the-match Andy Power netted five times as Urmston Hockey Club men’s first team battled back from 3-1 down to win 6-4 in their crucial promotion Division Five North South play-off against Bebington men’s firsts.

Urmston started slowest and were stunned by an early opener for Bebington who could have doubled their lead but for a penalty stroke save from James McLaughlin.

As they settled into their stride, Urmston restored parity through Power after he picked up Chris Martin’s visionary pass upfield.

However, Bebington moved back into the lead and doubled their advantage before the other goalscorer Sean Barrett won a penalty stroke which Power duly dispatched to give Urmston hope going into the break.

Power then fired home a hat-trick of penalty corners with captain Richard Wood and Scott Bailey making crucial goalline saves.

Bebington managed a consolation to set up a tense finish but Urmston held out to bounce back into the North League at the first attempt, cueing celebrations from their large crowd of travelling supporters.
