ALTRINCHAM Kersal's ladies secured a second win of the campaign in their final away game, beating Ormskirk 34-12 – the second time they have beaten them in Women's National Challenge North One this season.

The hosts started strongly and kept Kersal parked in their 25 for the first 20 minutes and despite some stubborn defending, they scored two tries.

Led by captain Eeron Cunningham, Kersal responded well to the setback and from the restart they turned over the ball.

Laura Stockton reacted first and set off towards the Ormskirk line before she was brought down and set up the first of a series of Kersal rucks.

Kersal’s first try came when Cunningham crashed over from a metre out.

The wind was at the Kersal girls’ backs for the second half and they came out with their heads up.

They again pressured the restart, forcing the error from the receiver who threw the ball into touch just inside the opposition's 22.

Kersal called a full line and set up a catch and drive. The forwards rolled and drove the maul at a cracking pace and hooker Emma Procter scored, which coach Chris Stewart named his try of the game.

Kersal dominated the rest of the match and only left the Ormskirk half to receive restart kicks.

On her final match before leaving to take up a job in the army, Becky Bravender benefited from a fine break from centre Olivia Hockin who offloaded just before a crunching tackle from the covering 15.

Bravender had open field in front of her and used her blistering pace to score under the posts, Helen Johnson bagging the extras.

Johnson then reacted first to an Ormskirk penalty infringement with a tap-and-go try that she also converted.

Next up on the scoresheet was Lia Brown. Second row Olivia Walker strengthened her bid for a switch to the wing with a storming break up the left. She stood up in the covering tackle and offloaded to Brown who still had a lot to do.

The Ormskirk defence knocked her over but she sprung up to score the try.

The new look Kersal scrum had been totally dominant in the second half, turning over countless Ormskirk ball.

There was a nice symmetry to the afternoon as Cunningham crashed over again from the base of a scrum for the final score.

Credit goes to all 15 girls who made the trip, with special mention to Walker for her carries and Stockton for her efforts around the ruck.

Next up for the ladies are league leaders Barnsley at home on Sunday.
