ALTRINCHAM Kersal men's seconds enjoyed an impressive 37-7 win at Chester thirds in North West League Division Two South.

With seven players from the last week's team moving up due to injuries in the firsts, victory showed the club's strength in depth.

Second-row stalwart Chris Weighell rolled over the line for the first try after a period of retained possession, and tries from the backs followed from new recruit Will Jones and Jack Snoddy, leading to a healthy score of 22-0 at half time.

In the second half, good team work provided more try opportunities for Snoddy and busy scrum-half Ged Scrase, returning to the team after injury.

The biggest smile of the day came from winger Dan Quinn who crossed the line after a pacy run to beat the defence from the 10-metre line.

At 37-0 Kersal took their foot off the gas, giving the opposition their chance to get on the scoresheet before the end.

The men's firsts were narrowly beaten 20-19 on home soil against Warrington in North One West.

Kersal had been 12-0 down at half time despite having the best of the play in the first half.

They came out firing after the interval and piled on three tries and two conversions.

But just when it looked like the long-awaited win had finally arrived Warrington managed to sneak over the line in the fifth added minute.

It was a bitter end to a battle between two sides with little love lost between them.

The men's thirds also lost at home, 31-0 to Ashton-under-Lyne seconds while the women took full points after their match was conceded by opponents Halifax on Sunday.
