ALTRINCHAM Golf Club and Driving Range are undergoing substantial changes that promise to produce one of the top golfing facilities in the region.

James Curtis, the highly-respected and experienced PGA professional is director of all coaching and has delivered more than 40,000 lessons in his career to golfers of all levels of ability.

And he is delighted with the developments that have already taken place to kick off the golfing revolution at Altrincham.

Curtis said: “The driving range has undergone a complete overhaul and the facilities now include an indoor swing room using state-of-the-art technology, the outdoor driving range, short game area – plus the excellent golf course.

“In my coaching team are Matt Mew, a level one coach and an experienced player who is now focusing on all aspects of coaching under my supervision, and Holly Calvert, also a level one coach who is a recognised figure on the European Ladies Access Tour circuit who is now focusing full time on coaching and has devised and developed a successful junior programme.

“Holly also has regular coaching articles in the national Lady Golfer publication.

The draws have been made for the inter club knockout competitions organised by the Manchester and District Golf Alliance which are the biggest competitions of their kind in the country.

The premier competition is the Dunham Forest Trophy which features the club professional and the six top amateurs in a singles matchplay format with more than 90 clubs in the mix looking to make finals day at Dunham Forest Golf Club in September.

In 2016 Leigh Golf Club set a new record of five wins in the long-running competition and two in a row.

They will be looking to make it a hat-trick in 2017 and have been drawn in the preliminary round at home against Wilpshire, looking to make the last 64.

Other ties involving teams in the North West include: Breightmet v Turton, Crompton and Royton v Dunscar, Hart Common v Tunshill, Nelson v Prestwich, Ringway v Bury, Sale v Ellesmere and Worsley v Westhoughton.
