ALTRINCHAM 2 GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY 3

ALTRINCHAM'S search for a home win in National League North this season continues after a disappointing defeat to 19th-placed Gainsborough Trinity.

The Robins went into the match with Jake Moult suspended and Shaun Densmore, Craig Hobson and Alan Goodall all sidelined by injury.

The game was effectively lost in the opening nine minutes when Altrincham conceded two sloppy goals.

The first arrived in the sixth minute when Ashley Worsfold got the better of Alty's John Cyrus and beat keeper Tim Deasy from an acute angle.

It was 2-0 three minutes later when Sam Patterson was beaten on the Alty right and the resulting cross found the unmarked Noel Burdett who scored comfortably.

Altrincham's debutant striker Tomi Adeloye had looked lively but his shots on target were all saved.

The hosts dominated the second half but were unable to score until eight minutes from time.

Before that Worsfold added a third for Trinity just after the hour mark.

On 82 minutes, Damian Reeves' shot came down off the bar and his follow-up header also hit the bar but Andy Owens collected the loose ball and fired home.

Four minutes later, centre-back Cyrus managed to divert a long ball past the Trinity keeper, who was fortunate to be on the pitch after being booked earlier for time-wasting and continuing to do so during the second half.

Despite laying siege to the Trinity goal, Alty could not secure an equaliser and now stand 17 points from safety.

One bright spot was an impressive debut from 20-year-old midfielder Laurence Taylor who got the man-of-the-match award.
