TRAFFORD stretched their unbeaten league run to 13 games on Bank Holiday Monday with a 2-1 home victory over Radcliffe Borough.

The win came thanks to a huge slice of luck when Boro skipper Lassana Nalatche put through his own goal in the 78th minute.

The hosts began brightly and after the league’s leading goalscorer Aaron Burns had headed tamely wide in the 11th minute, Trafford’s right winger Jonah Gosling was thwarted by a superb reflex save by Boro keeper Tadgh Ryan.

A great move down the right then ended with a low cross by Gosling and Ally Brown firing straight at Ryan, and left-back Lee Neville joined in the action with a thunderbolt that flew over from 15 yards.

The hosts finished the first half on top with Ryan tipping a Kingsley Williams chip over the bar and blocking a low drive by Alex Frost.

Trafford remained in control in the opening stages of the second half but were rocked in the 67th minute when Boro took the lead completely against the run of play, Elliot Rokka breaking down the right and flighting a sublime chip over Terry Smith and inside the far post.

Trafford manager Tom Baker introduced substitutes Jack Dorney, Ash Woods and Mark Derbyshire to the fray and in the 73rd minute Dorney sent a low cross to the back post where Woods arrived to steer the ball home from close range.

Two minutes later Neville screwed a shot wide at the far post but in the 78th minute Trafford forged ahead when Williams struck a poor low corner towards the near post and Nalatche completely miscued his attempted clearance to slice the ball into his own goal.

Gosling almost made it three with a thunderous low drive that was blocked by Ryan and there was then a lengthy delay as the Boro keeper received treatment and was forced to leave the field.

The closing minutes saw Boro pushing forward in search of an equaliser and deep into stoppage time Daniel Burns fired in a low drive that Smith pushed to safety.

Manager Baker was delighted with a victory that keeps Trafford firmly in the play-off positions although they face a tough task on Saturday when they travel up the M6 to play Kendal Town.
