GOALKEEPER Jude Ainsworth returned in style as her heroics helped Urmston Hockey Club's ladies’ firsts topple unbeaten Division Two South West leaders Crewe Vagrant ladies’ firsts in a thrilling 3-2 win.

At the other end of the pitch, Stacey Bell’s brace and a goal for Rachel Kelly sealed all three points with players’ player Ainsworth keeping the Vagrants at bay with some fine saves.

Man-of-the-match Stefan Wasilewski made a stellar return for the men's firsts as his four goals downed Southport men’s firsts in an emphatic 6-1 win.

Urmston dominated the game with Mike Tonge and Luke Fidler capping some sublime teamwork with the other goals to keep the Greens firmly in the Division One promotion chase.

It was not such a happy weekend for the men’s seconds and thirds who both fell 6-2 to Didsbury Northern men’s sixths and Leigh men’s firsts respectively.

Matt Downes and Rob Skelley netted for the seconds but it was not enough against a well-drilled Didsbury side, despite the defensive heroics of joint men-of-the-match Josh Weaver and Luke Durkan.

Similarly, the thirds were undone by Leigh’s second-half showing having held their opposition valiantly until the halfway stage.
