SALE Golf Club were given superb leadership by their captain and lady captain as they dominated the leaderboard in the annual Alliance Mixed BB Stableford staged at their club for the Hancock Trophy.

There were early celebrations as Marple pro Gary Brown holed his tee shot on the 201-yard par-three third hole to supply plenty of amber nectar at the 19th hole.

But it was not enough to get him in the prizes in the pro-am section as three pairs were locked on 41 points.

The countback went in favour of home pro Mike Stewart and his partner, Sale lady captain Maria Walmsley, which was Stewart's first win in the Alliance since he became the Sale professional 25 years ago.

Next in were Lymm’s Graham Cox and Lottie Makin ahead of Ringway’s David Brunton and Deb Quealey.

But the stars of the day were Sale captain David Moore and Cynthia Hammond, who posted a superb 44 points to win the am-am section and the coveted Hancock Trophy.

They finished five points clear of Blackley’s Darren Tickle and Lisa Liddle who won a card play-off from Jimmy O’Reilly and Fran Jukes of Swinton Park.
