SALE Hockey Club's Ladies firsts beat local rivals Bowdon to notch up another win in Division Two South West.

Against a side that had been in a higher division for several seasons, Sale started well playing controlled, attacking hockey. And their pressure was converted to a goal by Jane Fylan in the middle of the first half.

In the second period, their defence, conducted strongly by keeper Sarah Bedward, mopped up any attacks from Bowdon. Loui Hargreaves got a well-deserved second goal for Sale after making plenty of runs and linking up in and around the circle for much of the match.

Meanwhile the ladies' seconds secured their first Cheshire Division Two win of the season against Timperley.

It was goalless at half time despite Sarah Rowley hitting the post twice.

Resilient defensive play by Sale, marshalled by player-of-the-match Sophie Stephenson, could not prevent Timperley scoring.

But a penalty corner with three minutes to go saw a well-practised routine lead to Rowley making it 1-1.

Sale continued the attacking play with encouragement from their supporters and Christina McGarraghy dribbled to the back line, pulled the ball back and Rowley made it 2-1 to complete the late comeback.
