URMSTON Hockey Club's Ladies’ second XI continued their unbeaten streak at the top of Greater Manchester Women's Hockey League Division Three with a 2-0 win against Didsbury Northern ladies sixths.

Faye Wilson and Bronwen O’Toole found the net as Sarah O’Farrell and Becky Shepherd collected the players’ player and opposition’s player gongs respectively.

It was a mixed weekend for the ladies firsts, however, as they completed an unbeaten Saturday for the club with a 2-2 draw with Didsbury Greys  before falling to a 4-0 defeat against Alderley Edge Ladies’ firsts in the cup.

Danielle Harvey and Rachel Kelly netted on Saturday with Stacey Brown picking up the players’ player vote before the tireless Gemma Booth starred in Sunday’s defeat.

Leading goalscorer Brad Bates made it three goals in three outings as he struck in the men’s firsts' 3-2 win against Bowdon thirds in North West Hockey League Division One.

He was joined on the scoresheet by Sean Barrett and Stefan Wasilewski, who sits one behind Bates in the goal charts as the team moved level on points with leaders Didsbury Northern seconds.

Goalkeeper James McLaughlin was at the heart of a solid defensive display to weather Bowdon’s increasing wave of attacks as the game progressed.

Aaron Kelly bagged a brace as the men’s seconds sealed a second successive win as they triumphed 4-2 against Bolton’s thirds.

Matt Downes and Tom Coxon also netted as Kris Wood’s solid display helped keep Bolton at bay and keep the Greens within three points of the top of Division Five North/South.

Nick Wilson’s brace marked a stellar return as the men’s thirds ran out 4-3 winners against Didsbury Northern men’s sevenths with new boy Martin Smith also netting a double.

Youngster Jim Mair and Jonny Lay put in impressive performances that saw their rising stock continue to soar.

Rising starlet Tia Sharp was at the centre of Urmston ladies’ thirds' impressive display as she picked up the players’ player award.

However, despite the team’s valiant efforts, they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Didsbury Greys with Lyndsay Watson impressing as opposition’s player, returning from a two-year break from the game.
