STRETFORD CC youngster Mathew Laker scored a maiden century for the club's third team academy side as they beat Monton and Weaste.

He scored an unbeaten 102 before chipping in with three wickets.

A quickfire 79 from Matthew Armstrong and 50 for George Bell topped off a fantastic batting display with the team posting 270 in 40 overs.

Tidy opening spells from Kamran Hussain and Ethan Page saw them take one wicket each.

Robert Renforth took two wickets in two balls in a miserly seven-over spell with Joe Weems unlucky not to take a wicket bowling quick from the other end.

This was followed up by Thomas Coulson and Laker, with the latter mopping up the tail.

After the first and second senior teams clinched promotion the previous weekend, it was the turn of the third and fourth sides to shine.

The fourths chased 203 on Sunday against Droylsden for a great win, with skipper Peter Murphy's hat-trick being the high point.

Droylsden batted first and thanks to 123 from Phillips they finished with a good total of 293.

Usman Hassan and Sohail Choudry picked up a wicket each in steady opening spells.

This was followed up by a miserly spell of 2-15 from 10 overs from Ben Riddell.

Captain Murphy dismissed Phillips in his first over and then took a treble to end the innings early.

Stretford lost  a couple of early wickets and were 17-2, but the rest of the batting performed well with Keith Evans (34), Riddell (45), Hassan (53) and Ian Harrison (37 not out) securing a well-earned victory.

At Lesley Road, the thirds played league leaders Deane and Derby.

Stretford scored 208 with another 50 from Bell, 49 from Armstrong and 45 from Coulson.

Weems, Hussain, Page and Renforth all picked up wickets but Deane and Derby went on to win the game and the championship.
