ASHTON on Mersey completed their Cheshire Cricket League Division One campaign in fine style with an emphatic four-wicket win at already promoted Bredbury.

Choosing to bowl first, Ashton’s pace attack was always on top, as Josh Knowles and Andy Roscow tied up the Bredbury top order.

Wickets fell at regular intervals as Ashton rang the bowling changes.

Knowles and Dan Higgins removed the openers before Ben Davies and spinner Mike Roberts destroyed the Bredbury middle order and tail.

Davies was on fine form, taking a career best 6-33 as Bredbury were bowled out for 116.

In reply, Ashton were wary against the excellent Bredbury bowling attack.

Alex O’Gara threatened to break loose as he smashed a six through the sight screen but was deceived shortly afterwards by Chris Wood’s in-swinger.

Davies and Alex Turner moved the score along but both fell with work still to do.

With two more wickets tumbling there was a hint of an Ashton wobble, but Connor Keely hit an entertaining 31 to restore order.

When Kelly went, Knowles and Roberts played sensibly to take Ashton home on 117-6 within 30 overs.
