SALE’S Brooke Guest signed off with an unbeaten century on Saturday, but couldn’t prevent a defeat to visitors Tattenhall.

With neither team having anything to play for in the final Cheshire County League Division One fixture of the season Sale captain Chris Canning took the opportunity to mix up the batting and bowling orders.

Sale agreed to bat first and soon lost Ali Barrowman without scoring.

Richard Adams then contributed 15 to a stand of 45 with Guest.

Rick Halkon came in next, adding 83 for the third wicket, during which time Guest reached his 50.

After losing Halkon for 28 the home side were reduced from 129-3 to 180-9, with only Tyrone Lawrence (18) making double figures, leaving Guest six short of his century with only one wicket left.

Skipper Canning then came in at number 11 to see Guest to his milestone and his team past 200.

Canning was last man out for 19 in the 46th over, Guest finishing 111 not out on the day and topping 800 league runs for the season.

Ryan Spann and Stuart Sadler both finished with four wickets each for the visitors.

Sale opening bowler Lawrence took the gloves as Mat Spells and Guest formed the new-ball pairing, a combination to the liking of Tattenhalls Bret Siebert as they raced to 50 without loss.

The introduction of Barrowman secured the breakthrough with the score on 71, Josh Harding bowled for 19.

Barrowman took two further wickets, but the runs continued to flow as Canning rotated the bowling.

Siebert finished unbeaten on 150 as Tattenhall reached their target in the 42nd over.

The game marked the end of an era as Canning indicated he would step down as club captain after three successful seasons, challenging for promotion throughout his reign and coming within one ball of reaching the Premier League

last season.

His teams always played an exciting brand of cricket and were well respected for their excellent team spirit by opposition teams, umpires and spectators.

Meanwhile, the second XI were relegated by just three points after losing by 79 runs at Bramhall.

Abas Rizvi top scored with 43 as Sale were bowled out for 150, needing a draw for safety.

After being comfortably in mid table for much of the season some unexpected results in the other games saw the twos relegated to Division Two.
