BROOKLANDS Cricket Club's fourth XI took centre stage last weekend when they secured the Cheshire County Cricket League Third XI Sunday Division Two East title.

They beat Bramhall by 98 runs to secure promotion in their final game.

Batting first, home side Brooklands scored 224 from their 40 overs with runs spread throughout the side – Sam Higgins (56), James Robinson (31), captain Rohin Jairath (54) and Mark Bloomfield (51 not out off 24 deliveries).

Jairath's side knew they had to bowl Bramhall out to win the league and early wickets from Higgins and Asad Malik (both caught behind by Robinson) settled the hosts' nerves.

Cameron Buchan then achieved a run-out.

Bramhall recovered but a couple of wickets fell before Higgins ran through the lower order to end with figures of 5-20 off nine overs.

Bramhall were bowled out for 126 with eight balls to spare which was enough to see Jairath's side into Division One for next season.

Elsewhere, the under-11s narrowly lost their South Manchester Junior Cup final to Alderley Edge.

There was no play for any of the three Saturday sides.

This Saturday, the first and second XIs play their penultimate games – the first XI go to Congleton and the seconds host Grappenhall who have a chance of promotion to the Premier League.

The third XI host Prestbury.
