TRAFFORD MV Rugby Club's pre-season preparation moved up a gear at the weekend as they played their opening warm-up game against Windermere on the Cumbrians' home turf.

Trafford MV opened with early intent and kept the initiative throughout the game.

Early scores from Jon Lord, Jamie Kingdon and Iain Fogg and conversions from Greg Warren earned a 21-0 lead.

MV kept the pressure play going and scored a further three tries from Warren, Lord and Luke Crampton before the home side managed a score themselves to make it 42-5 to MV at half time.

Windermere came back with two second-half tries but MV held on comfortably with further tries for Lord – making it a hat-trick for him – and a further one for last season's leading scorer Kingdon.

MV were happy with a 68-15 winning scoreline and they were also pleased to see youngsters Rory Canham, Greg Warren and Rhydian Templar showing plenty of promise.

MV's preparation will face a tougher test this weekend with the visit of Llandudno for a friendly (3pm) before a local run out against neighbours Ashton on Mersey next Tuesday (7pm), with admission free for both games.

MV are keen to welcome people back into rugby and would like to hear from players wanting to return to the game, Anyone interested should contact Wilf Dooley on 01942 884542.
