TOBY Carson took six wickets as Hale Barns were swept aside by Disley to push them further away from the Cheshire Cricket League Division One promotion places.

Joe Fretwell-Walsh and Callum Schora shared three wickets apiece, but only three batsmen reached double figures as Barns were convincingly beaten by 96 runs.

The hosts made a positive start and raced to 42-0 from less than nine overs before Max Driscoll was trapped lbw by Shehan Fernando for a run-a-ball 21.

Fellow opener Lachlan Dunn continued at a similar rate and was joined at the crease by Andrew Clarke, who also played with great fluency.

After putting on 32 runs for the second wicket, Dunn became Fretwell-Walsh’s first victim for 35.

But Jake Reynolds and Clarke built another partnership as they found the boundary with ease, including two sixes each.

Fretwell-Walsh (3-47) carried on toiling for a breakthrough and he finally dismissed both batters, producing a caught and bowled to remove Clarke (39) before Reynolds was caught behind for 41.

Schora (3-75) then got in on the act with three wickets late on in the innings, but the runs kept coming for the home team as they added 31 from the final four overs to post 195-8 from their 45 overs.

In reply, makeshift opening batsman Fernando filled in at the top of the order in Chris Colley’s absence, but it was opening partner Mike Hunter who was first to be sent back to the pavilion for 10.

Carson was in full flow and made further inroads as he skittled through the top five, including Fernando for 21 to restrict the visitors to 51-5 after 20 overs.

Martin Blackbourn (2-23) claimed his first of two wickets, while Carson (6-25) soon took his sixth wicket as Disley’s bowlers ran riot.

Nick Lathbury offered solid resistance and added some respectability to the score as Hale searched for an unlikely losing draw.

The left-hander spent nearly 24 overs at the crease and top-scored with an unbeaten 29, but he ran out of partners as Matthew Wragg (1-22) sealed the win by taking the final wicket to leave Barns all out for a disappointing 99 with just nine deliveries remaining.

The result closes the gap between the teams to four points, with Barns 54 points adrift of second-placed Romiley with just six games left to play.
