FLIXTON Fire have reached the finals day of the inaugural Archway GMCL20 competition.

The Flixton side took on Unsworth Draggons in the Twenty20 tournament's quarter-finals last Friday and secured an eight-wicket victory.

The first innings saw Unsworth set a target of 121 with Luke Perry the pick of the Flixton bowlers, taking 2-23 from two overs.

The Fire quickly burnt through that target in less than 15 overs, helped by some textbook batting from Jamaican-born Alton Beckford who scored a rapid 64 not out from 33 balls as Flixton made 123-2.

An excellent win from Flixton Fire takes them into the T20 finals day, date and venue still to be confirmed.

Saturday saw a washout for both Flixton teams but Sunday saw another cup win for the first XI.

They posted a fine 186 in the first innings, heavily supported by Marlon Welcome-Goodman and local lad Oliver Riley. Denton West struggled to knock off Flixton's score after some tight bowling from the openers and finished 60 runs short. Another win sees Flixton progress into the next round of the Derek Kay First XI Per-Fit Cup.
