BROOKE Guest and Tyrone Lawrence both hit superb centuries to fire Sale Cricket Club's first XI to a seven-wicket triumph at Cheshire County League Division One second-placed side Grappenhall.

Sale got their season back on track in a high-scoring encounter, chasing down a massive 269-4 to claim the 25 points by reaching 273-3 with two overs to spare.

Asked to bat first, Grappenhall got off to a flying start with James McCoy and Adam Roylance leading the team to 50-0 after 10 overs.

However, some good bowling from Richard Adams and Lawrence reduced the hosts to 68-3.

That brought Pete Barnes and overseas star Ryan Ninan to the wicket who put on a partnership of 150 which was eventually broken in the 46th over with Barnes departing for a well-made 62.

Australian Ninan finished the innings unbeaten on 116, setting sale 270 for victory.

The visitors' reply got off to a bad start with both openers departing early.

However, Lawrence and Australia Under-19s star Guest steadied the innings with some outstanding stroke play.

A heavy rain storm when Sale were 69-2 could not hold back the in-form batsmen who picked up where they had left off after a 30-minute delay.

The left-handed Lawrence took a liking to some full bowling from the Grappers attack while the classy Guest never looked troubled.

After 40 overs Sale required just over a run a ball with eight wickets in hand and both batsmen chasing their first hundred of the season.

Lawrence was first to get there with a glorious cover drive. Guest followed in the next over.

A magnificent innings of 120 for Lawrence ended with Sale needing just seven to win.

The partnership worth 255 had club treasurer Roger Lee looking through the history books for the highest third-wicket partnership.

The loss of Lawrence proved only a minor blip with Guest steering the visitors over the line with two overs to spare. Ending not out on 133 from 132 balls, Guest showed his international class.

In what was a double header against Grappenhall, the second XI also claimed 25 points with an outstanding victory.

Batting first, they put on an impressive 219 -8 from their 50 overs.

New signing Santhosh Rajasekaren top scored with 56 while club stalwart Jamal Benzafar hit 43.

Grappenhall looked to be on track for the victory but some excellent bowling from captain Gareth Waterson and Siyan Siraj saw the visitors bowled out for 203.

Sale Silverbacks made it five wins in a row in the Over-40s competition with a comfortable eight-wicket win against neighbours Bowdon.

Bowdon struggled to score against some disciplined Sale bowling, reaching 95-7 off their 20 overs. Abas Rizvi was the pick of the Sale bowling with figures of 3-2.

Sale got off to a flying start with openers Ian Holland and Nigel Davenport both retiring at 30. This set the platform for the Silverbacks to reach their target with two overs to spare.

On Sunday, the third XI made it a 75-point weekend for the club with their first victory of the season against Bramhall. The visitors batted first and were restricted to 158 due to some good bowling by Ben Watkin who claimed three wickets.

Sale reached the target with the loss of only five wickets, Soans Praveen again top scoring with  a well-made 57. Sam Battersby also contributed 37 at the top of the order.

The first XI are in action in the T20 competition tonight, at home to Mobberley. They then travel to Cheadle Hulme on Saturday, while the second XI play the reverse fixture. On Sunday, the thirds travel to Stockport and the fourth XI host Bredbury St Marks.
