STRETFORD Grammar School’s under-14s football team lost 5-4 on penalties to Shenfield High School in the ESFA Under-14s PlayStation Small Schools’ Trophy final at Reading's Madejski Stadium.

After the teams were deadlocked 0-0 across two 35-minute halves, it all came down to the lottery of spot-kicks.

And it was a visibly crestfallen James Allatt who missed the decisive spot-kick for Stretford when he dragged it inches wide of the post.

The game was an end-to-end affair between SGS and the side from Brentwood, with Shenfield arguably shading the play in normal time.

Stretford's players were disappointed but that eased when England and Tottenham defender Danny Rose presented the team with their runners-up medals and offered his words of commiseration.

Despite the defeat, the team had a day to remember as they not only had the opportunity to play on the pitch of a Championship team, but also had their pre-match team talk in the dressing room.

Supporters who travelled to cheer from the stands, also enjoyed the memorable occasion as they were treated to PlayStation® 4 gaming experiences, half-time crossbar challenges and prize giveaways provided by PlayStation.

The final is part of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival, which is the culmination of another season of the exciting grassroots partnership between PlayStation and the ESFA with 15 national football finals from u12s to u15s secondary school age groups, featuring both boys’ and girls’ teams, taking place across three days.

The partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ FA (ESFA) kicked off in September 2013 and as well as providing a boost to grassroots football, has helped increase the engagement in competitive football for secondary school age categories.

A total of 20 PlayStation Schools’ Cup competitions have been staged in the 2015/16 season and have involved nearly 2,000 schools and 150,000 participants.
