BROOKLANDS Cricket Club's first XI had a good shortened match against Stockport at Cale Green to win their first Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two game of the season by 13 runs.

In a 64-over game, Brooklands were dismissed for 144 with runs shared between Dan Duke (24) and Ali Buchan (25).

A late flurry from bowler Caleb Jones (22 in 21 balls) ably supported the important 29 not out scored by Mark Law to get the Bears to a competitive 144-8 in their 32 overs; opening bowler Shea Gribben taking 3-35 in his 10 overs.

In reply, Stockport were reduced to 70-7 by captain AJ Hart and Christian Potter (both 3-25), however Danny Barber staged a superb counter-attack with 57 runs in 38 balls, including five fours and four sixes.

Youngster Raj Singh (2-19) ended this innings with Stockport needing 26 to win.

He and Jones finished it off as Brooklands recorded a fantastic first win.

The second XI lost overs, too, due to the adverse weather and had a 74-over game at George's Road.

Unlike the first XI, they were distinctly second best, although they did not lose.

Choosing to bowl first, Stockport got off to a flyer and were 59-0 after seven overs before spinners Chris Moore (1-26) and Alan Millington (1-28) brought some control to proceedings.

This did not stop the visitors amassing 179-3 in their 37 overs to defy their relegation from the Premier League last season, with half centuries for Jack Briggs and Rick Jones.

Despite the best efforts of the Brooklands batsmen, the Stockport bowlers' efforts were far better so the reply never got going.

Only George Storrow (25) accumulated any score of note and 68-9 was the total after 37 overs.

The third XI didn't play because of the awful weather.

The first XI host Mobberley and the second XI go to Bramhall this weekend, with the third XI travelling to Timperley to play Ashley.

The Sunday League side start their campaign under new captain Rohin Jairath away at Marple.
