STRETFORD CC saw both first and seconds record victory on a positive weekend for the club.

The firsts travelled to Droylsden and came away with a six-wicket triumph in Division Two of the Greater Manchester Cricket League.

The visitors won the toss and inserted Droylsden who got off to a cagey start against Adrian Holmes and Ahmad Muhammad.

But once the breakthrough came wickets fell regularly.

Holmes took the first wicket then Muhammad bowled a tight 15-over spell, taking 3-24 with five maidens.

Off-spinner Danie van Schoor came on for the first change and took 4-33 in 10.2 overs with Bradleigh Holmes weighing in with 2-2 at the end of the innings as Droylsden finished on 73 all out in 35 overs.

Stretford lost just four wickets chasing the low target, Adrian Holmes scoring 22 and Munir Khan with a hard-hitting 20 not out finishing it off as the visitors reached 74-4 off 17 overs.

All the batsmen got starts and Muhammad scored an unbeaten seven in support.

The second team beat Springhead firsts by three wickets.

Peter Stamper took 2-36 and his son Mark 3-28, both supporting old campaigner Mike King who took 5-49 as Springhead were bowled out for 183. Highlight of the fielding display was an excellent catch by 15-year-old Thomas Coulson, grandson of Stretford stalwart Vinnie Walsh.

The reply got off to a poor start as Stretford fell behind the rate and lost four wickets for only 40 runs.

Alex Grant and King came together and the scoring rate increased considerably.

King was caught on the boundary for a well made 50 and John Foulkes hit 20 in support of Grant.

Coulson was next in and hit 19 in quick time including a big straight six. Grant finished the game off ending on 58no.

This weekend Stretford firsts host Thornham in the league and Walshaw on Sunday in the cup.
