A RISING star is skating her way to the top, scooping third place in her first international competition.
Amy Morris, who trains at Silverblades Ice Rink, represented Great Britain at a competition in Miskolc, Hungary, earlier this month.
The 12-year-old took was selected to represent GB after taking first place at the British championship back in December.
During the 11th AVAS Cup International Figure Skating Competition (March 31 – April 3), Amy went up against 30 of her peers in the Basic Novice A Girls category.
The Knutsford Academy student said: “I was so excited to compete at my first international representing Great Britain, especially because this is the first time I have been on a plane and I went on four planes altogether to get there in back.
“The day before the competition I was fifth to skate out of 31. I skated well and I was in first place up until the 21st skater.
“There were some really good skaters and I was lucky and very happy to come third in my first international. It has been good experience for me to see what is out there and I know what I need to do to get better.”
Amy trains a minimum of 16 hours a week at the Oakfield Road rink and is coached by Gillian Edwards and Mike Fish.
