A local women’s football team are to get their first taste of international football away from home.
Altrincham FC Ladies travelled to the Isle of Man on Saturday 2nd April for fixtures against the island’s first team and B team, as the Manx teams warm up for the upcoming Island Games.
The games, which will take place at the 3,000 seater Douglas Bowl stadium, will not be the first time the sides have met. In May of 2015, it was Alty who were the hosts, as the Isle of Man enjoyed a small tour of the North West. Last time, the Robins put up a good fight, leading 2-1 at half time before falling to a 5-2 defeat. But Keith Edleston’s side made such a good impression that they have been chosen to take part in a return fixture, along with neighbours and rivals Chester FC ladies, who were recommended by Edleston, who is relishing the opportunity to test his side against international opposition once again.
Other club members have pitched in their support for the ladies, with first team goalkeeping coach and kit provider Ian Senior making up a snazzy special edition kit to be worn during the games.
