SALE Hockey Club's ladies' first team bounced back from the disappointment of defeat to Northop last time out to hit Oxton for five.

The ladies made another long trip to Oxton but enjoyed a much happier bus home thanks to a 5-0 victory in the Cheshire Women's League Division One clash.

Going into the game, the team talk was simple after the 4-3 Northop reverse – get tight, play for each other, do your job but don't try to do it all on your own and the performance will come.

Sale were on the attack quickly and scored through Katy Levy.

Loui Hargreaves put another one away to take the the score 2-0 at half time.

Sale did not ease off after the interval and were straight on the attack again.

Harriet Boswell scored a third goal and Sale had found their rhythm.

They effortlessly switched play, made runs and linked well from defence to attack.

It resulted in two more goals from Leanne Edwards and Jane Fylan against an organised and capable opposition.

The ladies seconds faced Neston in Division One but ended up on the losing side in a five-goal clash.

Sale began well and within 10 minutes a well-worked attack and two shots on goal, followed by Laister steaming in with an angled stick, resulted in them taking the lead.

Wave after wave of attempts from Neston in response were dampened by the Sale defence and diving keeper Lisa Wilton, until a poor hit out from Sale, towards half time, gave the opposition a rare chance at goal which they took.

The second half saw some great play from both teams with Sale pushing forward from defence through midfield and up to the forwards where some lovely triangular play was finished with a fantastic strike by Sarah Rowley.

Sale held strong as Christina McGarraghy cleared one off the line.

Neston were frustrated but ploughed on and finally found a way in, on a break.

Wilton could not hold three players off this time and the score was levelled at two apiece.

Sale tried to held strong in the dying minutes but Neston scored a third to snatch victory.

Wilton had a fine game – a fact not lost on Neston who praised here efforts.
