THE weather once again got the better of sports fixtures last Saturday as waterlogged pitches caused the cancellation of Trafford MV's first and second XV fixtures.

The firsts are now facing a potential build-up of fixtures as they seek to press home their advantage at the top of the Lancashire (North) Division.

There are already three fixtures that need to be fitted into the schedule with the potential for further postponements still a threat.

This weekend MV are expecting to play Didsbury Toc H who are sitting mid-table in seventh position.

MV will have a full-strength squad to pick from and will be looking to improve on the early-season 27-23 win at Didsbury.

Trafford will be fielding three sides again this weekend with the seconds away at Fylde and the thirds at Crewe and Nantwich.

The club received some good news this week as it was announced as one of the local host clubs for the 2016 Under-20's Rugby World Cup being staged in Manchester in June.

Twelve international teams will compete in the tournament which will be played at Sale Sharks' AJ Bell Stadium and Manchester City's academy ground and these national sides will train at selected local clubs.

Trafford MV are proud to be the hosts for the Ireland Under-20 team.

This is a great opportunity for rugby union in the region to boost its exposure and will provide great inspiration for the young rugby players at local schools, colleges and clubs to increase their involvement in the sport.

The club sees this as a benefit from continually investing in improved facilities like floodlights, new pitch drainage, new changing rooms and, more recently, a new clubhouse extension which puts the club on a par with many senior clubs.
