PLAYING their eighth away game in their last 10 league fixtures, Altrincham let an important two points slip away as they conceded a 90th-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 against a Welling United side below them in the National League.

The visitors started with James Lawrie replacing the indisposed Ryan Crowther and with three of their recent loan signings in their starting XI.

For their part, after a recent change of manager, Welling began the game with six recent additions to their playing staff.

It was Altrincham who started brighter and they almost took a 14th-minute leader as home keeper Marek Rodak beat out a Simon Richman header before Alty captain Jake Moult's shot hit the bar from the loose ball.

Welling slowly came into game and Alty keeper Tim Deasy had to save with his legs from Luke Wanadio four minutes before the interval.

At the other end, just before the break, Rodak saved well from Josh Ginnelly's 25-yard effort. The Burnley loanee was looking Alty's liveliest player at this stage.

Altrincham took a 58th-minute lead when Welling failed to deal with a ball up the middle. Rodak hesitated before rushing out to meet the oncoming Michael Rankine, but it was the Alty striker who showed the greater determination as he got the ball past the keeper leaving himself with an open goal which he did not miss.

Six minutes after scoring, Rankine had the best chance to seal a vital win when he was put clear against Rodak. This time the Fulham loanee won the battle as Rankine directed his shot straight at him.

Nevertheless, Altrincham looked relatively comfortable until the final minute of normal time.

Then, an Alty move broke down as Lawrie tried to find Rankine and The Wings broke up their right flank.

Although an inital effort was beaten out and Scott Leather performed heroics to clear off the line, welling substitute Sahr Kabba was on hand to net the loose ball from close range.

After the match, Alty boss Lee Sinnott said: "It's not a nice feeling to concede so late on but we can only blame ourselves. We should have finished the game off."

ALTRINCHAM: Deasy, Sinnott, Leather, Holness, Griffin, Moult, Richman, Lawrie, Ginnelly, Margetts (Mottley-Henry), Rankine. Unused subs: Williams, Heathcote, Reeves, O'Keefe.
