TRAFFORD MV cemented top spot in Lancashire (North) Division with a thumping 78-5 home win against Colne and Nelson on Saturday.

MV opened in determined mood at MacPherson Park and there were only minutes on the clock when hooker Ross Anderson scrambled over in the corner.

From the restart kick deep into the MV half, player/coach Stuart Crampton scythed through the central defence and launched a length of the field attack which saw Anderson again on hand to finish the move off before the conversion was kicked by Pat Eccles.

Crampton was again influential for MV's third try as he left the defence for dead scoring himself with Eccles again adding the extras.

Colne were now fighting to stay in the game and worked hard for position only to be sucker-punched as MV centre Jamie Kingdon broke against play to score and claim the bonus point.

Kingdon scored his second, Eccles again adding the conversion to make it 33-0.

Good inter-play saw prop Paul Davenport finish off a good handling move, but with half time approaching Colne opted for a scrum from a penalty award and this resulted in a well-worked try in the corner to make it 40-5 at half time.

The second half was all one way again as MV had the upper hand.

Number eight Danny Burke set the ball rolling again with a neat interception under the posts for an easy Eccles conversion and this was quickly followed by Kingdon claiming his hat-trick.

He soon grabbed a fourth before it was down to Anderson to seal his hat-trick as MV were out of sight at 64-5 following another successful Eccles kick.

The forwards earned another try when a good catch and drive from a line- out 35 metres out kept it's controlled momentum for Davenport to be rewarded with his second score of the game.

Andrew Moore finished the game for MV as he stepped his way through the defence with good footwork to round off the scoring with MV's 12th try of the afternoon.

This was yet another convincing display from Trafford MV and one which gained in importance when the rival title contender Littleborough conceded their first defeat of the season losing 15-10 at Tarleton.

MV now sit eight points clear of Littleborough who have a game in hand.
