SALE Ladies' Hockey Club had an interesting fixture on Saturday when the firsts faced the seconds in Cheshire Division One and ended 8-0 victors.

The first hurdle was to get the match played and after a lot of hard work, it beat the frost.

Both teams started well playing their required systems but it was the first team who attacked on the front foot.

They had plenty of opportunities to practice their set moves for penalty and long corners and free hits around the D. Persistence paid off and Hannah Aldridge sunk a penalty flick from a rare foul by keeper Lisa Wilton who otherwise had an impeccable game.

The seconds were able to work the ball out of defence into midfield but were often broken down by the firsts' established defence.

The firsts then managed to score a few more goals before half time with Jane Fylan, Loui Hargreaves and Aldridge extending the lead to 4-0.

The second half brought even better hockey and some snow.

Both teams had set themselves playing targets and were committed to their cause.

Ther seconds had a few more attacks and started to gel as a team, brought beautifully out of defence by Bex Hill and Steph Almond who were both playing out of position.

Sale firsts used Kelly Greenstreet effectively as a pivot for their switch play leading to a final flurry.

Fylan finished two more – one from the left and the other a screamer coming across her body from the right. Sarah Roberts also converted a penalty corner.

The lines were getting harder to see in the snow but the final whistle blew just in time.
