ALTRINCHAM-based 15-piece skating group, Blade Runners, have been crowned National Champions at the 2016 British Synchronised Skating Championships in their category, Adult Two.

The annual competition saw more than 700 individuals, ranging in age from 10 to 50 from 58 teams from all corners of the country descend on the National Ice Centre, Nottingham to compete for national glory.

Runners-up at the 2015 event, Blade Runners went one better this year to take a gold medal back to Altrincham.

Their toughest competition was Hull-based Northern Stars but a successful Free Skate earned them a total score of 21.16 – one point ahead of their rivals in second place.

Synchronised skating director at the National Ice Skating Association, and chairman of the ISU Synchronized Skating Technical Committee, Chris Buchanan said: "The British Synchronised Skating Championships is a highlight in the synchronised calendar; full of exciting skating with the spectacle of up to 16 skaters performing difficult and risky manoeuvres on the ice in perfect unison.

“It’s a great chance for skaters of all ages to come together and show the country what they have to offer – well done on your achievement Blade Runners.”
