A SHOCKING first-half performance on their first visit to Broadstreet costs Sale FC dear on Saturday as they went down 36-28.

The home side missed two penalty chances in the opening minutes but then scored the first of five tries that saw them race to a 33-0 lead by half time.

The first score came after a strong run from full-back Caolan Ryan put centre Andrew Murray in under the posts, and the try was converted by Lee Chapman.

Six minutes later scrum-half Nick Thatcher added a second try for a 12-0 lead.

With just eight minutes of the half remaining a quick tap penalty by Thatcher caught Sale napping and winger Luke Hibberd raced in from 40 metres with Chapman adding the conversion.

There was worse to follow as Haloti Molitaka and Murray each added a try and with both converted by Chapman, Broadstreet seemed to have tied up the match by the interval.

The scenario changed completely in the second half as Jonathan Keep scored a try on 50 minutes to at least get Sale on the scoreboard.

A second try by Ben Gledhill six minutes later gave Sale a way back into the match and with Broadstreet’s Ryan in the sin-bin for 10 minutes the visitors used the man advantage well.

Strong running and good support play ended with Connor Huffman scoring his first try for the club and McGovern adding the extras, but minutes later Broadstreet secured a crucial penalty to put them 15 points clear.

Sale did secure a try bonus point with a late score from Jake Pope converted by McGovern but the hosts held out for the win.
