SALE got back to winning ways with a 19-13 victory against Huddersfield.

Huddersfield dominated the opening quarter but all they could achieve were two penalty kicks from Chris Bell as the Sale defence held firm.

The visitors could not maintain their early momentum as Sale came more into the match and at the start of the second quarter Liam McGovern kicked a penalty from 38 metres to get some home points on the board.

There was little to choose between the sides moving towards half time but Sale finally gained the ascendancy.

A yellow card reduced Huddersfield to 14 men just five minutes before the break and McGovern secured a second penalty to level the scores.

From the restart Sale attacked once again and created a flowing move deep in Huddersfield territory to put Jack Moorhouse over in the corner and McGovern also added the conversion for a 13-6 lead at half time.

Despite Sale's Matt Postlethwaite being sent to the sin bin, both sides were guilty of poor handling or wrong options that prevented any scoring until McGovern kicked two further penalties approaching the hour mark for a 19-6 lead.

The play ebbed and flowed but Huddersfield made a breakthrough after Adam Aigbokhae was also given a yellow card when pressure close to the Sale line saw the referee award a penalty try and Bell added the conversion.

The visitors worked hard for the victory and had a golden chance five minutes from full time but the opportunity went awry with a knock on close to the Sale line.
