UMRSTON CC Sunday fourth team are celebrating after scooping the league title.

Urmston were leading the league but when Bowdon Vale played their games in hand they moved to within three points of the UCG side with a game in hand.

A winning draw at Bowden Vale helped to set up a thrilling final few matches as Urmston won their remaining two games including a victory against Stockport Trinity on the final day of the season.

Bowdon Vale had one game remaining the following week where three points from a possible 25 would seal the title for them.

In the end, they couldn't manage it and kicked off celebrations at Urmston.

They picked up the trophy for the division at Mere Golf Club on Friday.

Elsewhere, Urmston Hockey Club had a weekend of mixed results.

Danielle Harvey produced a five-star performance for the Ladies’ 2nd XI as she helped herself five goals as they beat Rochdale 9-1.

Captain and Players’ Player Charlotte O’Toole weighed in with an impressive double brace while Kelly Davies had a late goal ruled out while Isobel Seed was voted Oppositions’ Player.

A last-gasp equaliser denied the Men’s first team a record 10th consecutive win as Wilmslow snatched a late 4-4 draw.

Leading 3-0 at half time through Mike Tonge and a brace for Robin Cooper. A second half fight back drew the home side level before Cooper restored the lead.

However, with a penalty corner at the final whistle, Wilmslow reacted fastest after Urmston’s goalkeeper failed to clear the initial strike.

Man of the match Mike Tonge was tireless while Charlie Weems and Luke Fidler saw controversial yellow cards while Richard Wood picked up a green card for dissent."
