SALE FC secured their second win of the season with a dominant performance for the much of the match to secure a 31-23 win at Heywood Road.

A probing run from Scott Briggs gave Sale good field position and confident handling by forwards and backs in the Tynedale 22 put Jack Moorhouse over for the opening try on two minutes.

Ashley Smith kicked a penalty for the visitors but they were then caught offside in front of their own posts and Liam McGovern made it 8-3.

That lead became 11-3 as the home captain added a second penalty but despite some excellent play Sale could not penetrate a solid Tynedale defence.

Smith kicked a second penalty for the visitors just before the break but the half ended with McGovern landing a long range penalty for a 14-6 Sale lead.

Early in the second half a deft kick by McGovern saw the ball bounce perfectly for Chris Mayor and with Tom Davenport in support the latter released John O’Donnell to score his second try in two games and McGovern added the conversion.

The Sale captain kicked his fourth penalty before a long kick from Tynedale was caught by Mark Lawrence who weaved his way through a number of defenders before releasing Tom Ailes to score Sale’s third try. McGovern added the extras for a 31-6 lead.

At this point Sale assumed that the win was secure but the visitors came storming back with three tries in the final minutes.

Stand-off Matty Outson darted over on 74 minutes converted by Smith, and two minutes later winger Rory Dixon also touched down.

In the final play of the game centre Jack Harrison scored but Smith could not add the conversion to gain a losing bonus point as the attempt went wide of the mark.
