TRAFFORD FC boss Tom Baker wants his side to keep their feet on the ground despite an 8-0 drubbing of Prescot Cables on Tuesday night.

The Shawe View men were looking to pick up their first win of the season after two draws so far in their Evo-Stik Division North campaign.

But despite the scoreline, manager Baker believes there was still plenty of room for improvement in their display.

He said: "It was an important game to get three points.

"The first few games have been tough which was through our own doing.

"In all honesty we have not played like we should be and should have been sitting on more than two points.

"To get a good performance was good and getting eight goals was fantastic.

"Hopefully we can keep going from here but our performances have not been too bad in the first three games.

"If we had kept 11 men on the pitch against Mossley I think we would have got a win.

"Then we were 2-0 up against Brighouse and drew 2-2 then we lost by a penalty against Scarborough on Saturday.

"I was very critical of the lads at half-time and there were things we could have improved on such as ball retention but we played a lot better in the second half."

Striker Chris McDonagh was the hero getting five of his side's goals then Josh Granite, Lee Rick and Matty Kay also on the scoresheet.

Another positive for Baker was new goalkeeper Luke Pilling who signed from Tranmere Rovers and he played his first match on Tuesday night.

"He is only 18 and is highly thought off there.

"He is involved with Wales Under-19s and did well the other night.

"Our first-choice keeper Russell Saunders got injured against Scarborough and we did not know how long he would be out for so we had to move quickly to bring in another keeper."

Baker is gearing his side up for a challenging three days over the weekend when they look to progress in the Emirates FA Cup preliminary round with a tie against league rivals Witton Albion at Shawe View on Saturday.

Then on Monday, they take on Warrington Town, also at home.

He said: "It is going to be a tough game on Saturday but it is a competition where every player, manager and club wants to go far in.

"If you manage to get on a bit of a run then it can help you in the league.

"Warrington are going to be strong and were the bookies favourites to go up and they don't normally get it wrong.

"The club have the biggest budget in the league which helps.

"It is just hard with two games so close together then there is no much chance of respite."
