BROOKLANDS first team hosted a fantastic game against Congleton on Saturday and snuck home to an improbable one wicket victory thanks to batting heroics from opening bowler Alexander Jordan Hart.

With star overseas performer Max O'Sullivan (43) well set, Congleton would have been hoping to set a score above 200 but Ali Buchan ran out the Australian with a brilliant direct hit and this inspired Mark Law (4-31) to rip through the middle order, including taking three wickets in four balls.

Hart's first contribution was to bowl 13 tidy overs for 28 runs.

Brooklands' sterling effort in the final hour of the Congleton innings kept Congleton to 163-8.

The reply did not get off to a good start with the top order not coping with a fine opening spell from Sean Cardall (3-25) as the hosts were reduced to 13-2 and then 34-4, which brought Hart to the crease.

After Buchan's hamstring forced his retirement, Hart and Law consolidated but then Ryan Booth (3-45) took three quick wickets to leave Brooklands 93-7 and then 102-8.

Young spinner Raj Singh (11) joined Hart as the pair put on 43 for the ninth wicket.

When Singh was out, another 19 was still needed and Buchan came out to see if he and Hart could take Brooklands home.

Thanks to some powerful hitting, Brooklands did get home with 10 balls to spare, Hart ending on 77.
