AN excellent performance by Stretford's batsmen still didn't bring a win.

Stretford were away at high-flying Glossop and Glossop batted first on what was an excellent wicket.

Their openers Dale and Pennington started quickly as usual against a Stretford attack without the injured Ibrar Latif.

Munir Khan and Danie Van Schoor toiled away for most of the afternoon as Pennington scored 116 and Glossop finished on 289-3 in their 50 overs.

Munir Khan picking up all three wickets and Van Schoor bowling 20 overs.

Stretford's reply started well with Stephen Green 57 and 16-year-old Michael Tresnan 18 putting on 50 for the first wicket.

Munir Khan was at his belligerent best as he score 77 ably supported by Van Schoor and captain Wasim Zafar.

Zafar kept the momentum going but when the seventh wicket fell had to settle for the bonus point as the innings finished on 259-7.

Zafar scoring a timely half century finishing on 51 not out.

It was a much improved performance by Stretford against very strong opposition.
