CAPTAIN Andy Harrison and veteran Steve Warner led the way as Trafford MV 1st XI took on Saughall looking for a much-needed win.

Saughall openers made a solid start in very wet conditions, but once MV broke the opening stand the wickets followed on a regular basis and at 120-9.

However, the last wicket partnership made a battling 30 leaving at target of 150.

Skipper Harrison finished with figures of 5-54 and Pomfret returned to form, taking three wickets with a solid spell.

In response, in-form Warner made 91 not out as MV chased down the total for the loss of five wickets.

There were contributions from all of the top order and this was a much needed win which should go a long way to giving MV the belief they can now push up the table.

MV take on high-flying Appleton on Saturday and will hope to cause an upset.

There was also a win in the Cheshire Women's League as Trafford MV hosted Wistaton Village in a Division One/Two cross-divisional match at Macpherson Park.

Batting first, Wistaston were bowled out for 71, with Mary Priestner's bowling proving positive once again, with impressive figures of 3-10.

Trafford MV chased down the target of 72 in just 11.1 overs, Vicky Dean more than assisting in the win with an innings of 48 not out, the full points taking MV off the bottom of Division One.

With a win for MV's U11's this was the best weekend of the season so far for MV and things are beginning to look brighter.

Trafford MV C.C. are looking to recruit new talent for all their sides as, hopefully, the weather begins to settle down for a warm dry Summer.

The Ashes test matches are sure to create an upsurge of interest and MV hope to benefit from people looking to play the game around the lovely villages of Cheshire.
