SALE Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond is revelling in the challenge presented by the European Rugby Challenge Cup Draw.

The Sharks have been drawn against Pau and Castres as well as tough Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons. The three opponents will ensure some cracking games at the AJ Bell Stadium, in a competition the club are keen to win, 10 years on since last lifting the trophy.

He said: "It's a tough group to be in. The competition will be intense to qualify for the quarter-finals, but if we get it right I'm sure we will progress.

"The two French sides are two typical powerful French teams, but we will be ready for the challenge.

"Castres are an established side, who got to the Top 14 Finals in 2013 and 2014, and they won it in 2013, so they will be a tough opponent to take on, especially at the Stade Pierre-Antoine.

"They have some talented players such as Richie Gray, Rory Kockett, and All-Black Legend Sitiveni Sivivatu so they will be ready to face us.

“Pau are well-coached team, coached by former Sale player Simon Mannix, and they've strengthened well with two All-Blacks signing, so we know they will be a stern opponent.

"Plus, Newport Gwent Dragons are a strong side, coached by former Sale coach Kingsley Jones and Lyn Jones and they made it to the semi-finals of the competition last season so no doubt they will be determined to make it one stage further this season.

“However, I know if we play well we have a good chance of progressing into the knock out stages of the tournament and we will see what happens from there.”

Season Ticket Holders have priority booking for the knockout stages of the competition, and are guaranteed a ticket for the final if we qualify, ticket prices for it will be announced for it nearer the time.
