ALTRINCHAM Kersal RFC this week concluded a momentous season with further successes.

Following on from the first team winning the South Lancs/Cumbria Division One title and gaining promotion, the successes of the junior section of the club were highlighted by the U10s winning the Cheshire Vase.

The Cheshire Festival was held at a Sandbach RFC and after wins in all group games, AK beat Chester, and then Knutsford to reach the final against Lymm, which turned out to be a very tense game.

Lymm took an early lead before a swift attack from Kersal saw E------- Cardy and Tom Pattison combine and release E--- Capper down the wing to level the score.

AK fell behind again but with excellent defensive work by L Kearney, AK then stole the ball and set E----- Hamilton away to make it 2-2 at half time.

The second half was a tight affair with the defences on top, but as the final whistle approached Lymm spilled the ball and Pattison raced home from half-way to score in the dying seconds and to secure a 3-2 victory.

This concluded a number of 'Cheshire' successes this season for AK.

The Senior Colts, in their final game before moving to senior rugby, closely lost the Cheshire Cup final to Lymm, and the U13s lost in the Cheshire Bowl final to Wirral.

However, the U15s and U16s, were successful against Wirral and Anselmians respectively to bring more silverware to AK.

The junior section at AK is thriving and in addition to all boys teams from U7 to U19, next year there are plans to start a girls U13s team.

The final game of the season at Stelfox Avenue, saw the U13s host Ratoath RFC from Dublin under the new floodlights, and secure a convincing 50-5 victory with one of their best performances of the season.
