URMSTON CC are going for a double this weekend – by triumphing in the league and cup matches.

The Moorside Road side travel to Oxton, who were also recently relegated from the Cheshire Premier Division and then they follow it up with an ECB National Club Championship cup tie against Hyde.

Chris Turner's side only got 13 overs of action on Saturday as their game against Christleton was called off due to the weather.

Turner said: "It only partially rained but it was enough to keep us off but it was frustrating as the second team managed to get a game in a few miles down the road.

"We had not got off to a bad start with a few wickets and it is disappointing because they had suffered a defeat the previous week."

Urmston had high hopes of picking up their first league win of the season after beating Ainsdale in the cup on the previous Sunday.

Turner added: "Winning is a habit and we would like to bounce back with two victories at the weekend including a win against Hyde.

"They are in the Premier League so it would be good to get a result.

"Oxton will be tough too because they came down with us and they will be wanting to get back up."

Matt Parkinson has returned to the fold after a spell with England Under-19s in Perth and he took 2-22 against Ainsdale.

But all eyes will be on the batsmen this weekend.

Turner added: "Callum Parkinson has had a few 50s this season but the rest of the top five need to chip in and get the runs too."

Meanwhile, the second XI recorded a five wicket win against Bramhall with Chris Watson's 64, Max Buckley's 63 and Aaron Lawton's 56 the main highlights.
