TRAFFORD MV's season culminated in a Lancashire Plate final 36-7 defeat against Liverpool Collegiate.

Metrovicks were going into the game as underdogs with Collegiate already having won promotion as champions from the same league that saw Ashton-on-Mersey relegated.

The MV scrum was under great pressure and any MV set piece ball was always rushed and pressured.

MV's defence was terrific for the first half and was only breached on one occasion for a try which with the conversion and an additional penalty gave the Mersey side team a 10-0 half time lead.

MV were in fact looking good for the last 15 minutes of the half and hoped they could get something out of the match in the second period as their confidence grew.

But their bid for a revival were quashed as the Liverpool fly-half pegged them back orchestrating play and creating good attacking positions.

MV centre Andrew Moore scored a consolation try for MV and captain Pat Eccles kicked his last points after two seasons in the position before he hands over to Ben Wheeler.

A spokesman said: "MV can take pride in reaching the final and for consistently reaching high league finishes over the last few seasons – however the team does need to be strengthened in key positions if it is to take the next step to promotion.

"Recruitment will be targeted this coming season as the club seeks to improve at all levels in the club season on season."

Work will begin shortly on Trafford MV's new Community Room which will provide improved catering and meeting facilities, particularly for the thriving mini or junior section but will also provide additional facilities for community groups to hire and use.

The club will maintain its main function room and bar area for club and private functions.
