TRAFFORD MV celebrated after a 27-17 victory against Fleetwood at MacPherson Park .

Neither club had 1st XV's playing so it made for a hard-fought encounter with two strong 2nd XV's taking to the field.

Conditions were excellent and both teams played the game at a good tempo attacking and defending with equal enthusiasm.

MV opened the scoring after only a few minute for an early 5-0 lead and then a see-saw battle ensued as the sides competed evenly exchanging scores.

The two sides were poor with the boot and mid way through the second half the scores were level at 17-17 with three tries and only a single conversion a piece.

It was only in the latter stages of the game that MV began to exert a more prolonged spell of pressure.

Strong tackling from MV saw Fleetwood lose both their influential stand off and their full back with knocks which blunted the visitors attack.

MV were winning steady ball and Stuart Crampton put a penalty over to nudge MV 20-17 ahead.

MV played for territory now kicking deep behind the Fleetwood defence and chasing up in defence.

From a lineout deep in the visiting '22 MV's forwards drove on and eventually forced their way over the line for Gobbet to score. Crampton converted and the whistle blew for a deserved home win for MV.

This weekend will see the Trafford MV 1st XV back in action at Didsbury Toc H.

It promises to be a tight affair as the home side are sixth in the league just one place behind MV.

Trafford expect to be at full strength with captain Pat Eccles recovered form a shoulder injury and flanker Andy Quigley back from a three-week suspension.

Trafford MV will hold their Spring Former Players Re-union on April 11.
