SALE FC director of rugby Brendan Thomas insists a few week's break could prove vital in the title run-in this season.

The Heywood Road outfit had a chance to recharge their batteries last weekend to try to get a few players back from knocks ahead of their trip to strugglers Westoe on Saturday.

But Thomas also believes the break could be a double-edged sword for the club as they prepare to enter the business end of the season.

He said:“It is interesting as there is always the concern about losing some continuity but it could be crucial in the run-in.

“In the last six weeks our rivals Sandall have back-to-back games while we have another break in a couple of weeks and it could work in our favour.”

As they approach a crucial few weeks in the mix for the National Three North title, Thomas will get a boost with the return of centre Chris Mayor to the squad.

Mayor helped Sale Sharks to the Guinness Premiership in 2005-06 and his experience will help in the remaining matches.

But it is not only Mayor who will improve their chances of title success.

Thomas said: “Chris has been missing for a few weeks but we are just managing his body throughout the season and resting him ready for a comeback.

“Greg Jacob is a back-row and one of our most consistent players before his ankle injury.

“Ian Moriarty will be appearing for our second team and he will also boost the squad.”

Sale ran in nine tries in the National Three North encounter with Westoe in November but they will not be taking anything for granted.

“It is a totally different story when you play away from home and we will have to ensure our ducks are in a row to take them on.

“Then we have Firwood Waterloo the following weekend which will be a tough test.”
