TRAFFORD MV bounced back from the previous week's lacklustre performance and defeat to Ashton-under-Lyne to regain the fourth place in North Lancashire Division One.

They produced a much slicker and positive show to dominate Birchfield in a 46-17 away victory.

MV took early control and looked dangerous every time the ball moved along the back line.

An improved supply of ball saw better options opening for the MV attack and despite the absence of skipper Pat Eccles the side were playing with confidence.

MV were soon racking up the points and an open game kept the crowd entertained as MV ran in three early tries to the home side's one for a 19-5 after 20 minutes lead.

A further converted try apiece pushed the score on and with half time approaching Birchfield scored again and MV's Ben Wheeler added a penalty to make it 29-17 at half time.

MV took control in the second half as the home side seemed to be paying for over-exerting themselves in defence in the first period.

Further tries came from scrum half Zac Crabb, second row Andrew Clegg and No 8 Lewis Kingdon as MV dominated all phases of the game.

On Saturday MV are at home to Burnley, who always provide a stern test for the local lads.

The other highlight of Trafford MV's weekend was a superb 6-0 victory for their under-16s against Fylde to put them into the semi-finals of the U16s Lancashire Cup competition, a great achievement for a team who have improved dramatically over the last 12 months.
