PART-TIME Altrincham made it three wins out of four in the intense 10-day Christmas period by inflicting a first home defeat of the season on ambitious Eastleigh

The well-resourced Hampshire club has packed its squad with experienced Football League and Conference high-earners and, for much of this game, they kept Altrincham on the back foot.

But, although Eastleigh gained numerous corners, Altrincham worked hard to limit the Spitfires to just a couple of first-half shots on target.

McAllister's poor shot over the bar, from eight yards, saw Eastleigh's best chance wasted. For their part, a low shot from Nicky Clee was the main concern Alty caused to Eastleigh in the first half hour.

After 34 minutes, Altrincham had to rejig their formation when injured midfielder Peter Cavanagh needed to be replaced by defender Scott Leather. Alty captain Shaun Densmore moved forward and, soon after, Altrincham won two corners in succession.

From the second of them, Crowther's kick was diverted into his own net by Eastleigh's Jack Midson to give Altrincham a 39th-minute lead.

Eastleigh continued to attack after the break, with Coburn producing a magnificent save from American midfielder Jai Reason.

Despite having defender Green sent off for a second bookable offence, a foul on Damian Reeves on 71 minutes, Eastleigh remained on top forcing Altrincham to continue defending resolutely until Altrincham hit them with the killer second goal on 86 minutes.

Substitute Steven Gillespie won a free-kick on the edge of the box and Densmore produced a stunning strike to beat Flitney.

The win lifted Alty to 15th in the 24-team Conference and on Saturday visit Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Trophy.
