Traffford 3 Ossett Town 0

TRAFFORD cruised through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Shawe View.

Ossett attempted to replicate their second half tactics from Saturday with an extremely physical approach to the game but they had no answer to Trafford’s superior pace and class and fell behind in the 24th minute when Shelton Payne sped down the left flank and crossed for Rory Fallon to steer the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors continued with their attempts to intimidate Trafford and in the 30th minute their main protagonist Richard Patterson was shown an immediate red card with a shocking challenge on young Clevon Beadle. Unfortunately home centre back Lewis Chalmers reacted to this and was sent off for pushing.

This incident appeared to have a calming influence on Ossett and Trafford dictated for long spells with some neat possession football.

And they should have sewn the game up just before half time when Shelton Payne twice found himself in the clear only to be denied by goalkeeper Brad Dixon and Michael Oates broke through but fired wide of the far post.

Oates squandered another opportunity in the 53rd minute and dangerman Payne drove against the foot of the post as Trafford continued to dominate and they were rewarded for their superiority in the 63rd minute when Shelton Payne blasted home from 10 yards.

Three minutes later Oates rounded off a sweeping move with a sublime chip over Dixon and the remainder of the game belonged to Garry Vaughan’s side as they mounted attack after attack but were once more guilty of missing clearcut chances with Payne the main offender.

Nevertheless, Trafford were delighted to win through and they must now travel Redditch United in the Second Round on 15th November.

This Saturday Trafford return to league action with a fixture at Grantham Town and on Tuesday night they travel to Droylsden for a Doodson Cup tie.
