Barwell 0 Altrincham 3

ALTRINCHAM travelled to Leicestershire for their first ever encounter with Barwell, who play two levels below them in the non-League Pyramid.

Altrincham left-back Adam Griffin remained suspended and wingman Ryan Crowther was sidelined by injury.

The visitors started the game quite brightly but then the game developed into a stalemate, with Altrincham too often resorting to long balls on a pitch which, admittedly, was sufficiently bobbly to make passing movements difficult.

Barwell's left winger, Carney, was their main attacking inspiration but neither keeper had too much to do in the opening half. However, with first-half injury time being played, a Barwell attack was halted and a swift counter attack saw Altrincham take the lead with virtually the last kick before the break.

Nicky Clee played the ball forward to James Lawrie who took his chance well, from left of goal.

Striker Kyle Perry replaced midfielder Simon Richman at the interval and. within six minuites. he had doubled Alty's lead. From 25 yards he smacked home a shot which left keeper CaAstle rooted to the spot as it cannoned off his upright into the net.

Three minutes later Barwell's Jenno was shown a red card after hauling back Perry to merit a second yellow of the match. ALtrincham took advanatage of the opponents' depleted ranks to net a third goal. SCott Leather did well to get into the box and from left of goal he fed Damian Reeves for a tap-in, midway through the second half.

Barwell then had a second player sent off, when Woodward was dismissed followig a foul on Alty substiutute, Steven Gillespie. However, the Canaries rode out the final ten minutes without conceding again and Altrincham dvanced into the First Round Proper where the clubs from the Football Leagues One and Two enter the competition.

Next Saturday Altrincham have a home league match against Alfreton Town (k.o. 3pm)
